Smoke and mirrors

I am getting really tired of hearing about how well the "Surge" strategy in Iraq is working. Let me give you an analogy to better understand why it only appears to be working. The North side of Kalamazoo is generally considered something of a rough area with a higher crime rate than most, but I guarantee you if Kalamazoo were to post a police officer on every street corner there, crime would virtually disappear. Of course, just like you can't keep a cop on every street corner here, you cant keep Iraq flooded with soldiers. They have to leave sometime and when they do the whole thing goes right back to Hell in a hand basket. Now John McCain and the Republicans are suggesting we should look at our involvement in Iraq the same way as Germany, Japan, or Korea where we have had soldiers stationed for years. The subtle difference of course is that soldiers aren't being slaughtered at the rate of one or two a day in those countries. By the way, remember how Cheney sold this to us as a six month war back in 2003?
