Nothing to see here

I was watching Sen. Chris Dodd this morning on some news show saying that the two giant financial institutions, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, are financially sound even though the federal government is stepping in and guaranteeing investors money in those institutions. Reminds me of a cop standing in front of a burning fireworks factory telling the gathering crowd to 'please disperse, nothing to see here'.

A liberal bites the dust

Finally got to meet Larry Provancher who has had a reputation for a long time as a left wing liberal nut case and he did not disappoint me. He was in our shop and engaged in a conversation about immigration when I butted in with an opinion about illegal immigrants. He immediately identified me as some kind of right wing neo-con and claimed I was against all immigrants. Not true says I. I am on record as saying if you have a skill to offer and wish to enter this country legally, come on in, we can use all the help we can get. Of course Provancher took up the predictable liberal defense of illegals saying they are here doing the work Americans wont do for wages no Americans will accept. I then informed him that should the 15 million illegal immigrants be allowed to stay here legally, the first thing that will happen is the labor unions will organize them all. Do you think the unions will organize them at $5 an hour? As with most hardcore liberals he didn't have an answer for that and realizing he was losing the debate began raising his voice and talking non-stop which appears to me to be the only defense mechanism left wingers have when they're losing. He then announced that he would never be coming back to our shop. This is something else I find peculiar to hardcore liberals. When they lose they get mad and make it personal. I have many liberal friends with who I can debate, agree to disagree, and go on being friends and talk about other things. Hardcore liberals are just plain childish when they lose.

Hillary wants a shot

As ambitious and ruthless as Hillary Clinton seems, I would imagine that she wants that V.P. spot for no other reason than she doubts President Barack Hussein Obama will survive his first term in office.

Can we please give Detroit to Canada?

Just when you think the city of Detroit could not possibly look any more ridiculous, it does.
At his trial Geoffrey Fieger admitted that his campaign contributions to John Edwards were done illegally, yet the jury found him not guilty because they believed he didn't know it was illegal at the time.
Tell you what. Next time your pulled over for speeding, tell the cop you didn't know the speed limit was 35mph.

We have bad news and worse news

Another presidential election year and we now have our two candidates. On the Republican side we have a guy who completely prostituted himself to the Cheney/Bush people and sold his soul to the right wing religious nut-cases to get the nomination. The Democrats have chosen to go to the extreme liberal left and picked a guy who has never seen a social problem out there that a lot of your tax money wont cure.
Think I'm voting Libertarian this year.

They should have bought oil futures

Lets see...... Last summer and fall all we heard about was the massive Michigan deficit that Democrats and Republicans couldn't agree on how to fix. Then, amazingly, our brilliant politicians found a $350 million budget surplus at the end of the year. On May 9th three of our Michigan representatives ( including our own Jack Hoogendyk) announce that they want to give Michiganders a break from high gas prices by suspending the states 6 percent sales tax from Memorial day to Labor day. When asked how the state would deal with the lost revenue, Mr. Hoogendyk said it would be covered by the $350 million dollar surplus. Now, the Senate Fiscal Agency announced on May 14 that Michigan is facing a $300 million deficit starting Oct. 1st.
These people really need to talk to each other now and then.
