For those of you who haven't been paying attention, we are going to reach 4000 dead American soldiers in Iraq in less than a month. We should pass the 40,000 wounded mark shortly after that.

Less than a year ago, the Kalamazoo County drain commissioner was under intense scrutiny. Sexual harassment allegations. State fines. Unfinished projects. Finally, a misdemeanor extortion conviction. Drain Commissioner Bill French rebuffed calls for his resignation and insisted he was still appreciated by the public.

Please tell me of any private sector job where you would still have your boss's appreciation after all that, yet the Kalamazoo County Commissioners still can't make a decision on this slob.
